As per the latest Henley Passport Index 2025,  it is Singapore that retained its first position as the most powerful passport in the world, offering visa-free access to 195 destinations worldwide.

  • Japan: 193 destinations
  • France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, South Korea: 192 destinations
  • Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway: 191 destinations
  • Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland, United Kingdom: 190 destinations
  • Greece, Australia: 189 destinations
  • Canada, Poland, Malta: 188 destinations
  • Hungary, Czechia: 187 destinations
  • Estonia, United States:  186 destinations
  • Lithuania, Latvia, Slovenia, United Arab Emirates:185 destinations

For many Indians, getting a visa is a real struggle. Endless paperwork, long waiting times and unexpected delays,  high risk of rejection, make international travel stressful. 

Countries such as Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe Schengen take strict visa rules, requiring interviews and many types of docs. Some countries also issue only short-term visas with tough conditions.

How to Get Singapore Citizenship

You can apply if you meet any of these conditions:


  • Permanent Residents (PR): If you have been a Permanent Resident for at least two years and are 21 or older, you can apply. 
  • You can also include your spouse & unmarried children under 21 in the application.
  • Married to a Singapore Citizen: If you are a PR and have been married to a Singapore citizen for at least two years, you qualify.
  • Children of Singapore Citizens: If you are unmarried and under 21, and were either born within a legal marriage or legally adopted by a Singapore citizen.
  • PR Students: PRs who have lived in Singapore for more than three years, with at least one year as a PR, and have passed national exams (PSLE, GCE ‘N’/‘O’/‘A’ levels, or are in the Integrated Programme) can apply.
  • Elderly Parents of Singapore Citizens: PRs who have Singaporean children may also qualify.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will review applications based on family connections, job and income contributions, education, age, and willingness to integrate into Singapore’s society.

National Service (NS) Requirement

In Singapore, all male citizens and PRs must serve two years in National Service (NS) unless exempted. Boys who get PR or citizenship through their parents or as students must register for NS at 16.5 years and enlist at 18.

Skipping NS comes with serious consequences:-fines up toS$10,000, jail time of up to three years, and even problems with getting Singapore visas, work permits, or PR for family members.

How to Apply & What You Need

  • Apply for Singapore Citizenship: If you fulfill any of these conditions:
  • A passport-size photo
  • Birth and marriage certificates (if applicable)
  • Education and work certificates
  • A letter from your employer and recent salary slips (for employees)
  • Tax records from the last three years
  • Business registration and financial statements (if self-employed)
  • National Service documents (if applicable)
  • Processing Time
  • Standard applications: About 12 months
  • Children born outside Singapore to citizens: About 2 months

Some cases may take longer if extra documents or checks are needed.

If your application is approved, you must complete the Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ) - A program that teaches about Singapore’s history, values, and citizen responsibilities. After completing all formalities, you can apply for a Singapore passport, the most powerful in the world!
